eWater Chairman’s Award for 2009 to David Waters
Tuesday 24 February 2009
David Waters, a staff member of Queensland Natural Resources & Water, was awarded the prestigious eWater CRC Chairman’s Award for 2009 at the annual staff conference last week.
Making the presentation during the CRC’s annual conference dinner at Surfers Paradise, Dr Don Blackmore AM, Chairman of eWater CRC, thanked David for his important work for the CRC.
“I’m very pleased indeed to give you this award in recognition of your outstanding commitment to leadership and stakeholder engagement for eWater’s WaterCAST application project,” said Dr Blackmore, handing over a framed certificate.
“You can feel proud of your achievements in enhancing the capability of WaterCAST so that it is fit for purpose for management agencies. Well done!”
Professor Gary Jones, CEO of eWater said: “In particular, David has built strong support within regional communities for the new WaterCAST model and its appropriate use in forming regional water management plans and management actions.”
eWater’s ‘WaterCAST’ is next-generation software that can model the water and contaminants that move off a catchment and into its rivers and coastal waters. It helps managers and communities explore potential scenarios of land-use and climate-change, bushfire, flood, drought or construction activity and their effects on water quality and quantity. And it helps them plan where to invest in management interventions to improve water quality and maintain water yield. WaterCAST is designed for use on rural and urban-water-supply catchments.
The eWater CRC Chairman’s Award is presented annually to a CRC staff member or team that has made an outstanding contribution to the water research and management objectives of the CRC and its partner organisations.
David is continuing his work with WaterCAST for eWater CRC. He currently leads applications of the model across Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef catchments and south-east catchments, as well as in ACT, Victoria and South Australia.
