Annual Report 2023-24: AWP supporting people with disabilities in Cambodia

March 20, 2025 | Annual Report

Partnerships are fundamental to the work the Australian Water Partnership delivers in Australia and internationally.

In our 2023-24 Annual Report, we take a closer look at one of many activities delivered by the Australian Water Partnership, part of eWater Group, during the year.

The Australian Water Partnership and WaterAid Cambodia collaborated with the Cambodia Disabled People’s Association on a scoping activity that examined how access to piped water for persons with disabilities is impacted by climate change and the compounding environmental, social, attitudinal and governance barriers.

The study interviewed 53 people with disabilities, caregivers, and local authorities living in two communities, Kampong Tralach district in Kampong Chhang province and Prasat Balang district in Kampong Thom province. This study followed a workshop with participants to discuss and test the findings from the research and learn from each other about the barriers and factors that prevent access to water supply and participate in water and climate governance.

A workshop was also held with stakeholders at national and sub-national levels to share and discuss the results, helping participants to understand issues for people with disabilities and encourage them to think about equitable solutions.

While the project is in its scoping phase, the results have yielded critical data which can help people with disabilities get better access to water, and a build a better understanding of how climate and water issues interact with social issues in Cambodia.
