BUGS, CHEMISTRY AND RUSHING WATER ON SHOW FOR NYSF STUDENTS

Riffles, channels, nets and data will be part of the action for participants in the 2004 National Youth Science Forum tomorrow afternoon when they visit the CRC for Freshwater Ecology at the University of Canberra.

Fifteen students who have an interest in biological sciences will have the chance to get wet on the job as they see first-hand the challenge and excitement of environmental and water sciences.

`My experience with these students in the past is that they are particularly interested in the types of things we do, and what we personally have done to get to our particular place in life,’ says Fiona Dyer, who has organized the students’ visit tomorrow.

Dr Dyer, with Ralph Ogden, Richard Norris and Martin Thoms, all senior staff of the CRC and the University of Canberra, will take the students to the Murrumbidgee River to demonstrate aspects of water science, from sand grains to bugs and water chemistry to river management.

Photo and filming opportunities at Uriarra Crossing.
