WaterTools: a guide to three national level platforms to support the management of Australia's scarce water resources

Australia is an internationally recognised leader in water policy development and water resource management under water scarce conditions. Fundamental to this has been a commitment to evidence-based decision making, achieved by investing in tools and methods that support the collection, analysis and presentation of water related data.

WaterTools, produced by eWater, in collaboration with Geoscience Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian Water Partnership showcases three tools that have been fundamental to Australia's water reform journey:

  • ewater Source, Australia's National Hydrological Modelling Platform.

  • Digital Earth Australia and Open Data Cube Technology for organising remotely sensed information into analysis-ready forms to identify water availability and use.

  • The Bureau of Meteorology's Forecasting Tools and the associated Australian Water Resources Information System (AWRIS).

Through WaterTools, the Australian Government is sharing its experience, tools and approaches to assist others to build their capacity to address changing climates and increasing water scarcity.
