When customers come to eWater for software tools that help manage water sustainably, chances are they’ll meet James Naughton first. As Technical Sales and Support Coordinator, James sits at the intersection of technology, customer service, and business growth – a role that makes him central to eWater Group’s success.

A Day of Many Hats

No two days look the same for James. From triaging customer support tickets and working with developers on software improvements, to coordinating training and guiding his team, his responsibilities span the full lifecycle of eWater’s software products. He manages the sales and support systems, supports finance, oversees sales performance, and often steps in to troubleshoot IT challenges for clients.

“It really is everything from admin to sales to technical support,” James shared. “One day I’ll be working on financial analysis, another I’ll be helping a client troubleshoot, and the next I’ll be drafting client communications for training. It’s a lot of multitasking and competing priorities.”

Bridging Sales and Support

James is quick to point out that success in his role depends on more than numbers. While achieving and exceeding sales targets is important, he finds equal satisfaction in helping clients resolve issues and streamlining internal systems and processes to improve efficiency. Over the years, he has influenced numerous system and process improvements that have allowed eWater to deliver fast, reliable support with the available resources.

His ability to tackle whatever comes in through sales and support channels and provide a solution that works for the client and users makes him an exceptionally dynamic and integral part of eWater.

“I have been working at eWater since 2017, so in this time I have become quite experienced with our systems and software, and I can identify issues and resolutions efficiently”

Championing the Customer Voice

Behind the scenes, James is a key connector across eWater’s teams – collaborating with hydrologists, developers, product managers, and finance. Whether coordinating training or feeding user feedback into product development, he makes sure the customer perspective is always represented.

“That’s what I try to champion,” he says. “Our clients trust us to be responsive and reliable, and I want to make sure they feel supported every step of the way.”

Growing with eWater

Since joining eWater, James has developed deep technical knowledge of the industry and sharpened his IT skills, all while leading a high-performing sales and support function. He sees his role continuing to evolve as the company grows, shifting gradually from hands-on troubleshooting to more oversight, leadership, and long-term improvement.

Looking ahead, he’s excited about the modernisation of MUSIC software, one of eWater’s flagship tools.

“It’s great to see loyal clients and new users benefit from the updates,” he says. “That’s a project I’m really looking forward to.”

More Than the Office

Outside of work, James stays grounded by spending time outdoors, often up in the Brindabella mountains with his family. He enjoys cycling, playing and teaching sports with his kids, and appreciating good food and company.

It’s a balance of activity and quiet time that helps him recharge for the fast pace of his role.

A Clear Contribution

Asked to sum up his impact in one sentence, James doesn’t hesitate:

“I help the company achieve its mission by helping users access software and support them to use it, which expands their capacity to sustainably manage water.”

For eWater, that mission is core to everything. And for James, it’s the thread that ties together the many hats he wears each day.
