As eWater’s Senior Software Developer, Marcus Tessema plays a key role in the development and delivery of eWater’s suite of products that enhance water management decision-making across the industry. With an IT degree from the Australian National University, Marcus believes information technology is critical in sustainable water management, particularly in cybersecurity, to deliver trustworthy information and advice to our members and clients.

Our software developers are critical to creating and supporting high-quality, reliable, and evidence-based decision-making water management solutions. We are incredibly proud of the people who represent eWater Group, including Marcus Tessema, Senior Software Developer.

eWater Group delivers creative, science-based, and trusted water management expertise and tools to meet Australian and international needs.

Central to achieving our purpose is our people. Our diverse team is dedicated to delivering sustainable management of water resources through the development and sharing of best practices, capabilities, and knowledge of water expertise.

Our software developers are critical to creating and supporting high-quality, reliable, and evidence-based decision-making water management solutions.

As one of our Senior Software Developers, Marcus Tessema is instrumental in our role as custodian of Australia’s National Hydrological Modelling Platform, or eWater Source™, as well as our other software tools and programs, such as eWater MUSIC™.

Joining eWater Group in 2015 after completing his IT degree at the Australian National University, Marcus has always had a passion for problem-solving and creating and developing ideas.

“Programming and software development were the perfect avenue for it, and it was something I did as a hobby. It was an easy choice for it to be my career path, as it’s something useful that I also enjoy.”

Working closely with our hydrologists and developers, as well as our extensive user community, Marcus and the eWater Software Development Team develop new ways to improve the user experience with our software and ensure government, private sector and water managers are provided accurate and trustworthy information.

Marcus’s contribution helps the wider organisation of eWater Group provide stewardship, management, development, enhancement, skills-building, research, access, and transparency relating to Australian water management tools and services in the interests of its government members, stakeholders, clients, and customers and on behalf of the Australian people who have invested in us.

“I enjoy the problem-solving and creative aspects of my job the most. When I’m able to come up with a solution to a customer’s specific problem or implement a new feature and see customers using that feature to make their lives easier, it’s very satisfying.”

“It is satisfying to see an idea go from paper to being fully realised in the software on screen.”

As we continue to grow as an organisation, we are excited about the future of water resource management and the impact of eWater Group and our expertise in policy and programs delivered by government and private sectors around the world.

“I believe IT can have a positive impact in the water sector as it allows for hydrologists and modellers to understand past water behaviour by analysing patterns in intuitive and efficient ways, as well as take advantage of existing data and use software, such as eWater Source™, to predict future water behaviour in different scenarios and settings.”

For Marcus, information technology plays a critical role in sustainable water management, particularly cybersecurity and delivering trustworthy information and advice to our members and clients.

Marcus is an invaluable member of eWater Group and continues to work tirelessly to support the work we deliver as an organisation but also as a supportive and helpful representative of our eWater Solutions business.

“I’m really looking forward to contributing towards the future of eWater Source™ and eWater Music™ products, further increasing our positive impact on Australia’s water planning and management for the future.”
