Joining eWater Group in 2023, Dimuthu has brought an outstanding set of skills and academia experience to our organisation. Her love for problem-solving and coding has played a significant role in her work experience including completing a PhD in 2023 from the Monash University where she conducted research in control systems, sensor networks, and state estimation.

“I was drawn to the job and the potential to work on meaningful software solutions. The focus on developing tools for water management seemed like an interesting challenge, and I wanted to apply my skills in a new area and collaborate with experts in a different field.”

As our Research Software Developer, Dimuthu’s role involves collaborating with software developers and hydrologists, and to design, develop and optimise hydrological modelling software, particularly with eWater Source™, Australia’s National Hydrological Modelling Platform.

“On a typical day I engage in several activities that can include coding, analysing data, and refining algorithms. I spend time discussing project requirements with my colleagues to ensure that our software meets the needs of end users. Additionally, I conduct code reviews and document our processes to maintain quality and clarity in our work. There is a lot of variety; nI could be troubleshooting a software bug one day and evaluating the requirements for a new feature the next.”

It is Dimuthu’s calmness and ability to be agile and responsive to the needs of our users and clients is one of her unique approaches to our work at eWater Group. Working alongside our software developers and hydrologists, Dimuthu is able to help identify issues, conduct code reviews and help apply technical skills to real-world challenges.

“It is satisfying to see the positive impact of our work when we successfully resolve an issue for a user.”

As custodians of eWater Source™ we are helping Australia to manage our scarce and highly variable water resources. This is a complex and extensive software system is adopted across Australia to support water planning and management and used in real-world situations to help experts find the balance between agriculture, industry and growing urban demand while protecting the environment.

“Working on eWater Source™ is particularly engaging as each issue I tackle allows me to deepen my understanding of the software and learn more about its intricacies. This dynamic environment keeps my work interesting and allows me to continually learn.”

“I enjoy working at eWater for its collaborative environment. I appreciate the chance to learn from colleagues with different expertise, and I find the teamwork rewarding. It is also great to work on projects that can lead to improved water management solutions.”

In her time at eWater Group, Dimuthu has been able to share her knowledge, expertise and insights with her fellow colleagues within our software and hydrology business as well as the wider business.

“Many people might not realise how much eWater focuses on integrated research with practical software solutions. The organisation is involved in continuous innovation to enhance how we manage water resources which is important for sustainability.”

It is that perspective and forward thinking that has put eWater Group in a good position for the future. And like any technology, investment is key for long term success.

“Australia could benefit from investing more in technology that supports water management. Ideally, this should include promoting collaboration between software developers and hydrology experts in Australia and enhancing training programs to help build a skilled workforce ready to tackle future challenges.”

Through our software and hydrology business, eWater Group continues to support sustainable water management by developing tools that help Australian governments, and our stakeholders, make informed decisions for our future.
