Local government approval authorities
Land development has the potential to change both the quality of water running off a site and the volume of water generated on the site. Development approval bodies, such as Local Governments and Catchment Management Authorities use MUSIC to inform the development of local water quality and quantity standards and to ensure that development plans meet these standards.
Local government engineers also use MUSIC to design stormwater systems.
Private Sector
Private sector engineers, hydrologists, land developers and urban planners use MUSIC to design stormwater management systems to meet local approval requirements for all types of developments, including housing, road construction, forestry, change in land-use. In addition to the performance assessment of the design with respect to water quality and quantity, MUSIC also allows consultants to easily model various alternative scenarios and analyse the trade-offs.
Universities
Students learn to use MUSIC as part of natural resource management and engineering courses at 12 Australian universities, including the University of Adelaide, Griffith University, University of Western Sydney, RMIT, Charles Darwin University, Queensland University of Technology and the University of Melbourne.
Urban water managers
MUSICX, together with Source and Urban Developer gives urban water managers an exciting new platform for exploring opportunities for water sensitive urban design and integrated water resource management.
MUSICX builds on the original capabilities of MUSIC to model the benefits of water sensitive urban design features such as rainwater tanks, swales and wetlands and adds the new dimension of integration with catchment and river system models – allowing you to consider water management from the lot, suburb, city to catchment scale. Opening up opportunities to assess such things as the benefits of local water recycling schemes on reservoir yields or the contribution of local flow to ecosystem health.
